The Federal Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has announced that Canada will receive around 1 Million Immigrants over the years of 2019, 2020 and 2021.

This announcement by the honorable Ahmed Husein, once it hit the wires, has caused an influx of enquiries from the general public asking about immigration options and whether or not they can apply.

The manner through which the media has reported this announcement was not comprehensive nor detailed. This ambiguous way of passing on a piece of news that inherently has a “big” number in it has caused havoc amongst the multitude who are interested in immigrating to Canada.

Canada received more than 286,000 permanent residents in 2017 and projects that in 2019, the number could reach 350,000.

The projection forecasts 360,000 immigrants for 2020 and 370,000 in 2021.

Canada is not planning on welcoming a fresh 1 Million immigrants over and above the current intake. They are merely increasing the intake by 50,000 to 60,000 Immigrants per year. Looked at from another perspective, once can say that Canada has increased the intake of immigrants by approximately 150,000.
