New Immigration Plan

The current intake of applications in Canada’s Economic class is yielding a modest percentage of approvals and immigration status grants. What we mean by that is that not all applications submitted to Canada are approved. So if Canada plans to admit 1 Million immigrants by 2020, this means that the department, if it maintains its current immigration processing policies, will need to invite approximately 1.5 Million immigrants to apply.

Refused Applications

The critical fact that members of the General Public do not discern is that not all applications submitted are approved. In 2015 alone, out of 35,303 applications received, over 14,000 applications were refused after an invitation to apply was issued and a formal application for Permanent Residence status was submitted. This translates to 39% approvals. The situation improved in 2016 where the percentage of approvals went up to 92% and in 2017, the percentage fell to 87% approvals.

Refusal Statistics

The table below gives a snap shot of vital statistics that pertain to one of the Economic class’s programmes which is the Express Entry programme.

Conclusion

The same climate applies to refugees, family class, startup visa applications and other categories.

The question that begs itself at this point is whether the department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has the capacity to receive, process and filter down approximately 1.5 Million applications to net 1 Million admissions.
